Eastway Day Care Centre in Cannon Hill will be closed under plans proposed by Labour run Merton Council.

From the Council's own consultation

"On the 1 March, Merton Council approved its budget for 2023-24. As part of the process of setting a balanced budget, one proposal is to close Eastway Day Centre in Morden and seek to join 2 services together to offer an enhanced community-based model at the Dementia Hub in Mitcham and in other parts of the community. However, this is unlikely to be the same type and level of service and the new approach."

Save Eastways

Merton's Labour run Council plans to close the Eastway Day Care Centre. Merton Lib Dems' Cllr Jenifer Gould states "I am disappointed that yet again, Merton Council have planned to remove the much regarded and necessary day care services for elderly dementia sufferers at Eastway Day Centre in Cannon Hill. The only available respite care for dementia in the Borough run by the Council. I know that many local residents and carers rely on this service. I will do all I can to ensure that local community voices are heard to keep this facility from closure."
