Ticket Office Closures
Train companies want to close ticket offices at our local railway stations – at Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Motspur Park, Haydons Road, Mitcham Eastfields, Mitcham Junction and Tooting.
Station staff in ticket offices provide important support and help to passengers, particularly elderly or disabled residents.
Hundreds of passengers use our stations every day and being able to find staff at the ticket office is even more important if there is an interruption to services, such as periods of extreme weather or issues with the train network.
You can read the changes that South Western Railway is proposing to staffing at its stations and Thameslink has information on staff at its stations here. In broad terms, the plan is to close all the ticket offices – as the staff team will be elsewhere on the station.
Some of these changes could be a good thing – it’s definitely good to have more staff out and about across stations helping people.
But we want to make sure that:
1. these changes are not just used as cover to cut the number of staff at stations; and
2. that there’s no information on how people will be able to easily find station staff when they need help.
Have your say and share your experiences – consultation ends 26 July 2023 (NOW EXTENDED TO 1st SEPTEMBER 2023)
The most effective way to participate in this consultation is to share your personal stories and experience of why ticket offices and station staff are needed.
