Cllr Jenifer Gould for Mitcham and Morden
Local councillor in Morden is parliamentary candidate
Local Liberal Democrat councillor in Morden, Jenifer Gould is the parliamentary candidate from the Lib Dems to fight the next general election in the Mitcham and Morden constituency.
Jenifer Gould and the Liberal Democrats won a historic victory from Labour (first Labour loss to the Lib Dems in London in a decade) in the Morden ward of Cannon Hill by-election in 2019, with Jenifer retaining her seat with the largest vote in 2022. At that election the Lib Dems increased their representation from 6 to 17 councillors to become the main opposition party on Merton Council. Jenifer is currently the deputy leader of the Lib Dem group on Merton Council.
Cllr Gould consistently stands up for residents in her ward and across the constituency of Mitcham and Morden. Jenifer is a champion for increased local health provision, for example supporting cancer breast screening services at the Wilson Hospital, and saving community dementia services at Eastway day care centre in Morden.
Jenifer is a strong voice for the environment recognising the climate and nature emergencies as an equality issue and protecting our local greenspaces such as Morden Park where she is a Committee member of the Friends of Morden Park and Mitcham Common where she is a Conservator. Jenifer Gould is also a Trustee for Wandle Valley Regional Park Trust.
Jenifer Gould, upon her selection as parliamentary candidate for Mitcham and Morden consitituency said,
“I am proud to stand for parliament for my local area and I am determined to be a strong voice for residents across the constituency. Mitcham and Morden town centres have decayed in recent years, along side the persistent problems with rubbish and fly tipping across the area all under the watch of the local Labour leadership.
“I will be a local champion who will fight to stand up for local residents, improve our local health services and protect our local environment.
“At the election due this year, it will be a choice here of five more years of a Mitcham and Morden Labour party that takes local people for granted, or a fresh start with the Liberal Democrats.”
